Enquiry

We were approached by an engineering contractor who was currently designing and building a fuelling station for patrol boats on the coast of Malta. They required various pumps for transferring kerosene, diesel and petrol from storage tanks directly to the boats. The pumps were to be situated below the tanks (flooded suction) and outside in a marine salt laden atmosphere.

Solution

We would normally select pumps with stainless steel casings for kerosene, however budget constraints did not allow for this. We therefore selected end suction long coupled centrifugal pumps with GGG 40 ductile iron casings to ensure the pumps were robust - because a stronger casing material is crucial when handling volatile fuels such as kerosene. We also provided an epoxy coating for the casing to resist corrosion in the salt laden atmosphere. All pumps were supplied long coupled with Atex explosion proof motors and mounted on a baseplate. All 7 centrifugal pumps were delivered in 10 working weeks as agreed with the customer.
