Seawater Containing Fish Waste at Fishery - Immersion Pump & Vortex Impeller

Case Study Information

Enquiry

A fishery contacted us requiring two pumps for pumping sea water out of a fish farm tank containing fish offal and waste. The solution therefore needed to be able to handle a degree of solid content.

Key challenges:

Able to handle seawater without corroding over time

Ability to handle solid laden fluids

  • 440V/3Ph/60Hz
  • Column size 700mm

Solution

We specified 2 x vertical immersion centrifugal pumps cast in bronze, ensuring all wetted parts that come into contact with the seawater are non-ferrous and will not corrode overtime. Supplied complete with the vortex impellers, the VRX pumps create a vacuum so that large solids can pass through without interfering with the pump’s internals. These fish waste pumps are therefore able to handle the high solid content in the sea water/offal mix, passing particles almost as large as the size of the discharge diameter.

The column design separates the pump from the motor, this means that only the pump is submerged in the fluid and the motor is outside the fluid, therefore only an IP55 rated motor is required. The VRX pump is fitted with a vortex open impeller, it is axially displaced from the pump suction and this enables the free passage of large solids. These Azcue pumps are fitted with 6 pole motors running at 900RPM, the slower motor speed reduces the wear on the sea water pump and therefore increases its lifespan.
